Just when you think it’s over…

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

I have two Etsy shops. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned that in my Blog. Although Etsy says I’ve been with them since October 2017, I didn’t really start listing things until November 2017. In December 2017, I had a really bad allergic reaction to antibiotics and had to put my shops on vacation mode.

One shop, has had some modest sales since I’ve opened. At the time of this blog, I think I’ve sold 17 items. For some, that probably seems paltry but for me its been incentive to keep pushing forward. I predominately make Laminated Traveler’s Notebooks, but the last few sales have been in the Happy Planner Mini Traveler’s Notebook covers (mini rings) that I listed (I’ve included the recent tutorial I did on YouTube on how to make them). I also make other paper related crafts but they don’t sell well on Etsy – I may need to do a few local craft fairs for them.

But my other shop,, had not made any sales. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I put in less time in this shop than my Jojo shop. It takes longer to make things that are crocheted but also, taking good, dynamic, and compelling pictures is hard (at least for me it is). I’d like to have items to stage the photos with (larger mannequins, head form of various sizes, etc.) but I don’t so I don’t know if the pictures I do have really convey my work. I’m sure my SEOs could use a lot of work.

In the beginning of 2019 I was really thinking about letting my listings expire and just closing the shop. And then it happened. Someone in a Facebook group I belong to purchased an item. Again, it may seem insignificant to many, but for me it was huge. It was the motivation I needed to keep going. I work full-time so I’m fortunate that I’m not dependent on my Etsy sales to make a living. But it would be nice if I could get to a point where I break even.

That one sale has revitalized me. I WILL work on better SEOs. I WILL work on adding more listings. I WILL remember that it’s the journey and sometimes the path doesn’t go where we’d like but we’ll usually end up where we need to go.
