DIY Projects

Since it can be difficult to source Happy Planner items here in Hawaii, I tend to do a lot of Do-it-Yourself (DIY) projects.  It is the easiest way for me to recreate things that I want but can easily access.  Also, I know from comments on my YouTube page, there are a lot of people in the same situation.  Perhaps it’s due to lack of availability at their neighborhood craft store.  Perhaps it’s due to no neighborhood craft store.  Perhaps it’s due to budget constraints.  Whatever the reason, I know I’m not the only one who can’t always get the new shiny things I see on Instagram and YouTube.

Although you would think that the current obsession with the Happy Nichi is a new invention, it isn’t.  Well not really.  I mentioned in another blog post that “Fauxbonichis” started popping up on YouTube in 2014.  What makes the current obsession so visible is twofold.  1) The Hobonichi Weeks is getting more ‘mainstream’ visibility on Instagram and YouTube due to the explosion of corresponding sticker kits (my opinion). 2) Happy Planner make Half Sheet Happy Note Notebooks.  Although not the same size, those in the planner community instantly made a connection between the two planners.  Currently, Happy Planner does not have it’s own Half Sheet Planner system so many in the planner community have seized upon the idea and made their own.

DIY HappyNichi/Fauxbonichi Cover

I did a quick tutorial on my YouTube Channel of how I made budget-friendly, yet durable covers for my DIY Half Sheet Happy Notes.  Below are the sizes of the inserts I used for my Happynichi as well as for the cover.  It’s quick, easy, and made with readily available (and surprisingly versatile) supplies.

Inserts/Dividers: 9 1/4 inches tall by 4 1/8 inches wide
Cover: 9.75 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide.
